 Ask a Question

Letter to the editor:
in the third session of the mediation on the new itu building, supporters and opponents were irreconcilable. it bothered me that the ministry of the environment said that it was the task of the itu to research "safety in the handling and final storage of radioactive materials" (4th generation nuclear power plants).
in my opinion, it should be borne in mind that this work has been going on since 1956, at that time the karlsruhe nuclear research center. since then, however, countless accidents and dramatic catastrophes have happened in the world, countless water, soil and air have been poisoned for eternity - plants, animals and people have been damaged or killed.
science and research have always denied that the greatest dangers to be assumed will ever be within the realm of possibility. but with fukushima we have experienced the largest man-made, irreversible catastrophe ever on this planet, which makes parts of japan uninhabitable for all time.
the greens also won the elections in baden-würtemberg because of this fact, and therefore came to power as the oldest anti-nuclear party in germany. now it turns out that the greens also want to further support this madness through research institutions on german soil.
again, it is the researchers who, supported by the eu and business, are researching 4th generation nuclear power plants, transmutation and partitioning and claim to want to work on "safety in the handling and final storage of radioactive materials".
it is clear to me how this matter is going in circles, how the greens saw through this when they were founded and how they have fought against it for decades. now even they are falling for the window dressing of the nuclear proponents. you should know that nuclear energy has no future - that's what you've always preached.
that's why i call on the state government to clearly distance itself from further research and developments on 4th generation nuclear power plants, transmutation and partitioning so that germany can show the world what a real and final exit from nuclear technology looks like.

the next mediation meeting is expected to be on november 10th, 2011 linkenheim-hochstetten
