 Ask a Question

Letter to the editor:
on monday, september 26th, 2011, supporters and opponents met for the 2nd round of the mediation process on the new itu building in the community center in linkenheim. the situation came to a head towards the end of the discussion when the green environmental politician meinel from stuttgart made it clear that the mediation at the itu in leopoldshafen/linkenheim was not about the general question of whether research or not research should be carried out on the next generation of nuclear power plants in germany.

upon request to the environment minister untersteller, it was confirmed that it was in germany's interest to know about the safety of the fuels of the 4th generation nuclear power plants, as nuclear power continues to be used in europe and the world. despite the decision to phase out nuclear power in 2022, research is to be carried out on 4th generation nuclear power plants in germany in order to help countries such as: b. france, usa, russia, japan and others with data and tests.

however, the terms “safety research and security” have long been no longer acceptable in connection with nuclear power plants. there is no safety (fukushima) and therefore there is no safety research. if work is being done on the 4th generation in europe, these specialists actually need theoretical background knowledge - otherwise things will go south as soon as they are switched on. in this respect, the environment minister is right. i say: let them research the “safety of fuels” but not here in germany! why e.g. b. not in france or in russia where these 4th generation reactor types are then supposed to go into operation.

the activists who stood at the entrance to the mediation with slogans like "no research at the itu on the 4th generation" will now have to turn their slogans against the greens from the environment ministry, mr. untersteller and mr. meinel. because if wing m is built and the huge amounts of radioactive material applied for are approved, then the eu (euratom) can realize one of the largest nuclear research facilities in the world on german soil.

the stuttgart greens are thus turning themselves from the ministry of the environment into helpers of the eu nuclear lobby (euratom), who want to produce even greater dangers with new technology and continue to rely entirely on nuclear power and nuclear waste and do not want to get out of nuclear power like germany. the new nuclear waste from the 4th generation nuclear power plants should not radiate for 1,000,000 years but "only" 1000 years but with a lot of dangerous substances.

in contrast, the mayor of linkenheim-hochstetten (johs) clearly spoke out against research on the 4th generation nuclear power plants with high radioactive quantities in your area in order to sensibly object to the changed development plan there building a conference hotel. likewise, the bund sees great dangers in the existing building as it is not adequately protected against plane crashes or the threat of terrorism. in my opinion, the question of where the increasing proportion of cancer patients comes from should be asked again in this context and will be the topic of the next meeting when it comes to radioactive emissions in air and water.

3. meeting, wednesday, october 12, 2011, 5 p.m., rheinhalle eggenstein-leopoldshafen
